• ⛽ Petrol Stop at Ceres: Before embarking on the Gydo Pass, we’ll make a quick stop to fuel up at Ceres—this will be the last chance for a refuel before heading into the more isolated parts of the Karoo.
• 🏞️ Gydo Pass: Begin your journey with a drive through the spectacular Gydo Pass, a beautifully winding mountain route just outside Ceres. Known for its sweeping views, this scenic stretch provides an excellent introduction to the landscape of the Karoo.
• 🌵 Tankwa Karoo National Park: As we venture further into the arid beauty of the Tankwa Karoo, we’ll be surrounded by vast, open plains and dramatic mountain ranges. It’s a place of breathtaking silence and awe-inspiring scenery, where the sky seems to stretch on forever.
• 🚙 Katbakkiespad: The adventure continues on the legendary Katbakkiespad, a gravel road that winds through the rugged terrain of the Tankwa Karoo. This isolated, off-the-beaten-path route offers stunning panoramic views of the surrounding Karoo landscapes, giving you a true sense of being in the wild.
• 🍴 Tankwa Padstal & Tankwa Overland & Camping Expo: We’ll take a well-deserved break at the Tankwa Padstal, a quirky, rustic spot famous for its warm hospitality and unique Karoo vibe. While there, we’ll join the Tankwa Overland & Camping Expo—a great opportunity to mingle with fellow overlanding enthusiasts, explore the latest camping gear, and learn more about the region’s outdoor adventures. Stop for lunch at your own account, and we’ll spend approximately 1.5 hours at the Padstal before taking the road back home.
